Rabbit Air BioGS AC Charcoal filter for models SPA-421A and SPA-582A

Charcoal based Activated carbon filters are utilized in BioGS Air Purifiers to capture airborne gases, VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and odors. VOCs are often generated by offgassing from carpets, composite wood furniture and other materials in the home. The effectiveness and the life of the carbon filter are determined by the concentration and density of active carbon in the deodorization filter. Since the BioGS Activated carbon filters have a much higher active carbon concentration and density than ordinary activated carbon filters in the market, odor problems from cooking, pets, smokers, microbial VOC or other sources can be eliminated or minimized very effectively.

I have not really noticed the bad smell, but the plastic piece came loose and much of the charcoal escaped. A poor construction on a otherwise good system. 9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Shipped fine. Works great. By B. T. Denyer This item was a direct OEM replacement to the filter that came with my unit. My original had a plastic frame while this one has an aluminum one. They also do not have the honeycomb cell shapes (for the charcoal) anymore. Aside from the obvious shipping materials (which were ample): The packaging for this product is minimal: only a purple bag around it. No pointless extra box or other materials you just end up throwing away. The purple bag is "PE rated for recycling. My last filter lasted 3 years, which is the same duration they suggested. How I knew it was time to change out the filter was that the unit stopped clearing odors (i.e. cooking, cats) from the room. I did, however, wash the filter every month or so with Ivory dish soap and warm water. 11 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Not washable By Lisa Has this sweet almost acrid odor after washing. I rinsed mine in plain water but I couldn't seem to get rid of the smell. My 2 star rating is in reference to the life of the filter and the fact that I don't believe this product performs well after washing. The filter before washing functions fine. I love my Rabbit Air purifier (its greatly reduced my multiple cat allergies), not a fan of the Charcoal filter. See all 14 customer reviews...
